Alessandra Cappellotto was born August 27, 1968. I have seen Alessandra Cappellotto in action on the climbs of Giro De Feminin and many races in Italy. She is a good climber, very consistent rider that often rode in the shadows of the over powering, ever dominating Fabiana Luperini. However she always gave it a good fight, up out of the saddle in a relentless climbing style all her own. She was quite interesting to watch.

Gutsy rider, and often a good team player, working for Luperini on the same team in some years, and some years not. She certainly was a chiseled rider, the look of an awesome athlete. She was consistent and placed in both the mountain and points classifications of the Grand Tours during the 90's.

She was also very sweet to the fans, sometimes blowing kisses to the camera. She was gracious in Interviews to the press, and probably the most well known in Italy, only surpassed by Luperini in status, but certainly one of the top women of Italy from the last decade. Cappellotto rode for Sanson Mimosa in 1996, 97, teaming up with Luperini. In 1998, she rode for Giant, and for Gas Sport Team in 1999, 2000 and 2001. She went to Powerplate in 2002, Conero Team Valenti in 2003 and USC Chirio Forno D'asolo in 2004. Cappellotto also rode for Accadue O-Lorena team.

Cappellotto rode well in both the grand tours considering this was the dominate period for Luperini, Cappellotto rode brilliantly well. In the 1995 Tour De Feminin, Cappellotto won stage 2, Le Sentier to Vallée de Joux, which I believe was her first stage win of the women's edition of the famous Tour De France. She had expressed her joy like Edita Pucinskaite did when she won the worlds by saying it was a dream come true. I have seen most of the good years from the 90's of the women's Grand Tours and she was in her prime about the same time as Luperini. While she crashed several times in the tours and the 2000 Olympics, she always managed to collect herself and carry on with the race.

Alessandra Cappellotto
World Champion! (1997)

The following year in 1997 she won the Worlds road race in San Sebastian Spain. This was certainly her greatest victory and the dream of every great rider. Cappellotto went on to win the road race of the Italian National Championships in 2001 and 2003. While her palmares are a dizzying array of stats, these are her most famous victories.

Articles are written in my own words, researched from a variety of sources from Europe and the United States, including seeing things first hand at races, researching race videos, books, magazines, libraries etc. Stats and career highlights, palmares were confirmed as much as possible from several sources worldwide so that they can be as accurate as possible. In some instances the riders have contributed to the quality of the articles, and photos were taken at various races worldwide. Photos provided by a number of sources, from the riders to professional journalists, and courtesy of donors. Thanks to Cyclingnews for the quality of their archives approximately since the year 2000 helps to validate other sources worldwide. Special thanks to Alfred North for his tremendous contribution to the women's cycling over the last 30 years, which his archives dating from 1984 to the present day has been an overwhelming contribution to women's cycling worldwide. This is the first time that in depth compilation of the women rider's palmares have been well researched and posted to the Internet for the whole cycling world to see. They are comprehensive and cover several decades. If you use my work, please give credit.
