Monica Valvik Valen was born September 15, 1970. She started racing at age 10, and was World Champion at age 24. Perhaps more well known is her famous sister Anita who has also blazed a trail on the world cycling scene in the last decade. Perhaps the most striking thing on her palmares would be winning the 1994 World Road Championships in Italy, but really what must be the most fascinating note in Monica's career is winning all five stages in a row of the 1992 Tygrikescupen stage race in Sweden.

In 1992 Monica won both the national road and time trial championships and was first in the national rankings. Again in 1993, she won the national road and time trial championships. In the Tygrikescupen stage race, she won three of the five stages and the final GC. That year she again placed first in the national rankings and won the Norway Cup.

Monica had her best year in 1994, winning not only the national road and time trial championships again but also the World Road Championships in Italy. She finished first in the national rankings and the UCI World Challenge. In 1995, 97, Monica finished first in the national rankings and in 97 Monica made a clean sweep of the nationals winning the road race, time trial and the criterium. She took the Norway Cup again as well.

In 1998 Monica won the National Road Race, and took first in the national rankings. In 2000 and 2001, Monica again finished first in the national rankings. Monica was an excellent stage racer winning a number of European stage races like Tygrikescupen stage race in Sweden which she won twice. She won the WRCA 4 Days in France and the Tour of West Norway, as well as the International Amev Ladies Trophy Diessen stage race in Holland, and the International Tour de Bretagne in France.

Articles are written in my own words, researched from a variety of sources from Europe and the United States, including seeing things first hand at races, researching race videos, books, magazines, libraries etc. Stats and career highlights, palmares were confirmed as much as possible from several sources worldwide so that they can be as accurate as possible. In some instances the riders have contributed to the quality of the articles, and photos were taken at various races worldwide. Photos provided by a number of sources, from the riders to professional journalists, and courtesy of donors. Thanks to Cyclingnews for the quality of their archives approximately since the year 2000 helps to validate other sources worldwide. Special thanks to Alfred North for his tremendous contribution to the women's cycling over the last 30 years, which his archives dating from 1984 to the present day has been an overwhelming contribution to women's cycling worldwide. This is the first time that in depth compilation of the women rider's palmares have been well researched and posted to the Internet for the whole cycling world to see. They are comprehensive and cover several decades. If you use my work, please give credit.
