Mara Abbott Wins Giro De Italia Femminile 2010!!

I think it's best to leave my website up with this final tribute to the 2010 blockbuster edition of the Giro Donne. It couldn't of been any better for me personally as an American. Mara Abbott becomes the first American Woman to win this Grand Tour and she did it with the support of the USA Team! It just doesn't get any better then that, plus she climbed and won the legendary Stelvio Pass for the icing on the cake. I will always remember this edition, and it's a solid footnote for me to retire on.

I wrote about it at great lengths in the pre-race buildup and keep the drums beating for drama going into the race. I covered the race with my long time old friend Davide Ronconi. Add the fact that the Italian TV did a great job of covering the race, and I reckon it was one of the most superbly covered races for women in recent memory. Also the drama and the tension for fans was fantastic as Mara Abbott and Emma Pooley went head to head on the big climbs. I will always cherish this tour.

As I said, for me personally nothing will ever top this tour, and I want to post the same pages for the pre-race and the coverage as an everlasting memorial here for as long as this site will continue to exist. I hope your experience of the 2010 Women's Tour of Italy was just as rewarding.

My all time hero will always be the great and really legendary Fabiana Luperini, but my American hero will always be Mara Abbott. The most classy rider ever in my opinion will always be Nicole Brandli. Cheers everyone and finally the end caption of this site will always remain as a tribute to Nicole Reinhart, who died tragically during a Pro Women's Road Race.

This site is dedicated to the spirit and memory of Nicole Reinhart.

"You have to work hard for a long time without results. And you'll feel like you're putting yourself into a hole,
but you just have to stay focused. You have to have faith that if you're doing the work now, you'll get there sometime."
